How to Shake off Sleep

Have you ever woken up but by around 2pm you realize that you never really “woke up?” You’re feeling like a zombie because you never really did shake off sleep. You feel like a fish out of water…

How to shake off sleep…

  • Wash your face with cold water- If you are outside of the home and you can get to a sink, just splash some water on your face. This will do wonders to wake you up.
  • Do some stretches- trying not to yawn, just do some basic stretches to get the blood flowing better. Increase air to your lungs by placing your hands behind your head and pulling your elbows backward.
  • Drink some water- guzzling water seems to help me real quick and of course H2O is amazing for your mind and body. Cold water may be best if you’re extremely tired. Then splash some on your face if that doesn’t work. ūüėČ
  • Find something that makes you laugh- No seriously, laughing wakes you up! I mean have you ever noticed when you can’t sleep, you tend to laugh at everything, so try it in reverse. Find something funny on YouTube. I recommend LizaKoshy
  • Do some random exercises- Yes, any type of exercise, movement, workout! Just get up and dance around, even for  a few moments.  If you’re sitting at a desk, just move what you can.

Hopefully these little tricks will wake you up and help shake off sleep!

Feeling A Bit Meh?

So, I know this blog is all about speaking life online and motivating others, but right now, I’m feeling a bit meh! emotiguy-1654859_1920¬†Uh, I think I even have the wrong Emoji plugged in because this one is looking more sad and pitiful. ¬†I’m not really feeling sad or pitiful, just a little, well, meh. ¬†I know that things will look up and that life is full of challenges, changes, and ups and downs, so ultimately I’m not going to let anything get the best of me.

Okay, so here comes the motivating part. ¬†All of us go through times of struggle, anxiety, confusion, or even depression, however, the way we deal with these times and circumstances is what gets us through and builds us up. ¬†I’d like to think of it as moments used to build character, step outside of ourselves, rely on the strength of our creator, and time to reflect and redirect. ¬†With all of that being said, I for one feel better already and I hope that I have encouraged someone else as well. ¬†emoticon-1610573_1920So, just hold on, and hold out because although things may not be as you wish this moment, things do and always will change. Keep pressing forward and keep each other lifted. ¬†May God bless and keep you all in His perfect peace!

Why Are Fidget Spinners so Spectacular?

Are fidget spinners so spectacular? My 11-year-old son told me about fidget spinners this weekend and he is just set on getting one.  He was so excited because he said they help you to focus and concentrate in school.  He also said that almost all of his classmates have one and even his teacher uses one.  I was really interested when he said that his teacher has one and the fact that they are allowed to use them in school.

So what is a fidget spinner? I went straight to my search engine and discovered the Wikipedia definition of a fidget spinner. ¬†According to Wikipedia, ¬†“The toy may help people who have trouble focusing or fidgeting by acting as a release mechanism for nervous energy or stress.” These stress relieving toys are a hot commodity because we searched almost every 7-Eleven in our area and they were all sold out. ¬†It was pretty fun because another child and his father were on the same treasure hunt, lol! ¬†Wherever we went, we saw them. ¬†Also the employees knew immediately that we were looking for fidget spinners as soon as we entered the store looking anxious.

My son told me that most of his friends purchased their fidget spinners from 7-Eleven or online. ¬†I want to make sure I get him a good one and that it is worth the price. ¬†I have seen them on Amazon from about $1.99 -$43.99. ¬†Yes, it’s a pretty wide range and I’m not even considering paying any where near the latter price. There may be some that cost even more.

I would like to know your opinion on the price, the best ones to purchase, and if you feel that the fidget spinner is a real stress reliever for children, or even adults. ¬†Why are fidget spinners so spectacular? I may purchase one for myself because I’m all about various ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

7 Reasons to Work Out in the Morning

And the reason I chose the number 7…

As a woman of faith, It is essential that I pray before I do anything. ¬†When I began thinking about why I like to work out in the morning, I wanted to provide a substantial amount of reasons. ¬†I know that in the Bible, the number 7 represents the number of completion. ¬†As an advocate for healthy living, I’d like to feel “complete” in all I do each day. ¬†Therefore, I chose to list 7 reasons it is so nice to work out in the morning.

1. Your work out is done for the day

Yes! ¬†You did it, just like that, and now you don’t have to think about whether or not you will get in your daily workout. ¬†When you get off of work, you can go ahead and focus on other things that you need to do or you can just relax. ¬†If you have children, you can help with homework, take them to their activities, fix dinner, bath, etc. without having to feel as if you just “can’t make it to the gym” because of so many things that need to get done. ¬†Even if you do not have children, there are always things that need to get done, homework, activities, fix dinner, bath, etc. ūüôā ¬†Now that you have done your work out, the possibilities of getting everything else done is even more achievable.

2. You have more energy throughout the day

Whenever I work out in the morning, I have more energy throughout the day! ¬†According to Dr. Cedric X. Bryant, PhD Chief Exercise Physiologist of the American Council on Exercise, “You set the day’s pace.” ¬†I don’t know about you, but for me, if I start my day off feeling good and full of energy, the rest of my day tends to go extremely better, even with daily setbacks, frustrations, or disappointments. ¬†I notice that my energy level tends to stay up for much longer whenever I work out in the morning.

3. You can deal with daily stress much better

Just like having more energy throughout the day, whenever I work out in the morning, I am able to handle daily stress much better. ¬†I’m not sure if it’s just the thought that I know that at least I accomplished one thing I set out to do that day, or if it’s the endorphins that have been released. ¬†Either way, I just know that I can deal with so much more when I exercise in the morning.

4. You have a sense of accomplishment that stays with you

It feels good to know that you have accomplished something that you have set out to do. ¬†When you work out in the morning, you have that “feel good” sense all day. ¬†Right along with dealing with stress much better, having a sense of accomplishment does wonders for your work day and for your life in general. ¬†Accomplishments lead to confidence. ¬†If you are feeling confident in one area of your life, it tends to spill over to multiple areas.

5. Morning exercise improves sleep

Now, I will admit, I do love my evening workouts too, however, I do find it more difficult to settle down and fall asleep after a hardcore kickboxing class or dance party. ¬†Dr. Bryant found in a research that “the evening exercisers had more trouble falling asleep.”¬† We all know the importance of a good night’s sleep. ¬†There are also studies that show that lack of sleep can cause weight gain.

6. You tend to make healthier choices throughout the day

When I work out in the morning, I know that I need to fuel my body with healthy food, therefore I eat a healthy breakfast after I come from the gym.   I also tend to eat better in general on those days.  Perhaps knowing that I have started off on the right track, I want to stay on that track, more so than on days when I did not begin with a work out in the morning.

7. Working out in the morning enhances brain function

Exercise any time of the day enhances brain function, however, doing it in the morning increases your ability to perform better with your daily activities. You ever notice how much more clearer things become and how well you perform in other areas of your life after you have exercised?  Well, just think of how much more you will accomplish if you get these juices flowing first thing in the morning.

In conclusion,  exercise is of course a vital part of healthy living and should be done on a regular basis to live better, be healthier, and improve your overall well-being.  Consider these 7 reasons to work out in the morning.  Your mind, body, and soul will thank you!
